Halifax Pop Explosion!

Friends,

For the record and those of you in Halifax, I will be playing at Halifax Pop Explosion on Thursday at Hell's Kitchen (at 10:00 sharp!) I hope you can make it... I am bringing the tickle trunk out to this one!

I am still getting back in order from the madness that was Pop Montreal a couple weeks ago. Here is a few of my highlights:

- Burt Bacharach (I have been waiting years to see him)
- The Persuasions
- Silver Apples
- Patrick Watson (live recording inside a 50 person chapel.)
- The Magic
- Final Fantasy (In the tiny basement of a tiny record store.)

That list can go on forever, it was 5 days of what a late 90's basketball fan might call, "Vince-anity."

On other notes, I have written a handful of songs lately and after Pop Explosion I am taking a break from shows to sit myself down and record some songs. More on this soon...

Pete Samples Mini Tour Starts Tomorrow! Yay!

Something to dance about...

I have been doing a floaty dance the past few months so pardon my sparse "dear diary's..." I just got back to Montreal from Vancouver and thought I would fill you in a few ditty's.

First off, we'll begin with some bragging. Go to www.earshot-online.com and  you'll find me sitting at #15 on the top 50 for July! And if you are feeling extra adventurous, you can go HERE and find me at #1 on the Electronic for July! Yay! A big hug to all the radio folks that payed attention to The Jumper Cables.

In other news, CBC Radio 3 did it. Yes it. They exposed Pete Samples. If you go to www.radio3.cbc.ca , you will find a deeply buried secret exposed on their most recent R3TV episode, entitled "Whats in a name?"

I am getting excited for our upcoming Southern Ontario/ Maritimes mini-tour... We are in the process of confirming more dates, but you can see where we are playing HERE . Oh, and today I just found out that I will be playing Halifax Pop Explosion, which means the maritimes will be seeing quite a bit of Pete Samples in the coming months.

At the beginning of the year, I set some pretty rediculous goals... I had these wild ideas of making 4 mini-albums this year. I have completed 1 but that leaves 3 to go. I think I am going to change the course and set my sights on making 1 more this year. Something for you to look forward to anyway...

And in the end, all I really wanted to say was - "Oh, Winona."

And the tour comes to an end...

It's about that time - The Jumper Cables Tour has come to an end... A huge thank you to all the people who supported this tour - it was a blast! Thanks to all the people that came out to the shows and all the promoters and bookers that made it all happen! The tour started on Vancouver Island and ended in Montreal - I think we played about 26 shows a long the way, my throat is sore and I had "the big sleep of 2008" last night!

I am back in Montreal and firing up the old studio in a couple days - exciting things are in the air. I don't know if you have noticed, but The Jumper Cables is number 10 on the Canadian college radio charts and number 1 on the electronic charts this week! YAY! Thanks to all the radio disk jockey's for being nice.

The Jumper Cables

I wanted you to know that on May 20th, I will be releasing my brand new mini-album, "The Jumper Cables." It is a small collection of 5 songs (plus a few secret ones) that I have been working on for the past few months. It will be a limited edition release of 200 hand made cd's (done by my mom!) and free digital download!

Also, I have just been accepted in to NXNE in Toronto... I am playing the Hideout on June 14th. Don't worry, if you are not in Toronto, I will be touring Canada in May/June with my pal John Ward in May and June! Check out all the dates HERE!I hope you can make it!

New Pete Samples Mini-Album Out May 20th!

Some exciting news that I have been delaying on running my mouth about....

.....Drum roll.......

I have a new mini album that is almost finished and will be released May 20th! I am pretty excited about it, and have been working hard the past couple months. This little album is going to be a limited run CD and will be available for download on my website! Exciting right?

More exciting news.... I will be touring Canada in May/June for the release! Most dates have been booked already, and if you don’t see your city, it will hopefully be listed soon! Or maybe you can help with that city? Just a thought.

I should get back to work so I can pull through with these promises.

To begin, I will brag by letting you know that I closed off the year in the top 10 College radio chart for 2007! Check it out at www.earshot-online.com. I don't mind being behind some of the names on that list... Thanks to the Radio Disc Jockey's for the support.

In other news, I am working hard on new music, in fact the new mini-album is almost finished - just have to record vocals and a few other things. I have 8 songs. It was supposed to be a 4 track EP, and somehow it doubled on me to 8! There are a few fast numbers, and a few slow ones... I think you might like it. I hope so anyways.

A summer Canada tour is in the works, more on that soon. Also, I am releasing a track on a Vancouver compilation, Manoeuvres 2 - It is being released in March 2008. I am practicing my magic tricks, some new ones just came in the mail!

This is yesterday's news but "Yours Makes Mine" is available for free download right here on this very website! Just go to the music section, and it's yours.

Also, we are looking for helping hands for somewhat of a "street team" for the summer tour. If you are interested, let us know!

Did you miss me?

Friends, Friends, Friends,

This is exciting, my first blog entry in months! I missed you, and I hope you missed me too. I am back in Canada... I was travelling for the summer and it was a blast, read a tonne of books.

I have some news, and other things related for you... First of all, I live in Vancouver now.... Goodbye Montreal! Strange... Change is good right?

I have written a handful of songs and I am ready to record again! No promises, but I have high hopes to finish an EP before the new year... As always, I have some different ideas about the music I want to be making. I will wait to share ideas so I dont jinx anything... In Turkey, I bought a Cumbus. (pronounced Joom-Bush) It is a turkish 12 string banjo and sounds amazing. I cant wait to start recording.

I miss Winnipeg, I am going to book a show there soon and come see you. Speaking of shows, I am sorry to those in Montreal for not being able to make it to the October 11th show with National Monument! My first cancelled show.... I swear I am not a diva... I will make it up to you, I promise.

I think I am rusty at blog entries, its been a while. Forgive me.

Fantastical. Magical. Wondrous.

I feel bad that I have not been in touch for the past couple weeks... I have been in Winnipeg for the past week promoting YMM, and it was a fantastic success! A big thank you to those that came to the CD release at the Collective, it was heart warming. Maybe that could explain the overwhelming perspiration I had going on... I guess it was a part of the theatrics! I also saw "Rocker."

I have the worst cold I have ever known right now and I am hurting. On the plus side, I have good news... Yours Makes Mine charted at #1 on the !Earshot Electronic Radio Charts 2 weeks in a row! Yay! A big thank you to all the radio disk jockeys for your support!

Have you watched my new music video for "Between Exhales" ? It is posted in the Gallery but you can also see it at Myspace or YouTube. Let me know what you think! I have learned some new magic tricks lately and I am trying to book some more shows right now to show off. I will let you know where and when the "show and tell" will happen. Yours Makes Mine Officially Released!! Exhale...

The news I have been waiting to give is finally upon us!

My new record, "Yours Makes Mine" is now officially released! I hope you like it.

Last week, I played a release party in Vancouver and it was an abundance of fun! I will be doing another release party in Winnipeg of May 31st at the Collective (108 Osborne.) I will also be playing the Mutek Festival in Montreal on May 30th at Hotel Godin. (10 Sherbrooke Ouest) Other CD release parties are being booked and confirmed right now. More soon.

Also, I have a music video that is almost finished. It will be up as soon as its ready! I say another week or two! YMM has been charting on college radio, it finished this week at #3 on electronic charts! I also noticed that I am one of the featured artists on the Myspace page, check it out here. Things are starting to happen and I am getting excited! Thank you for being such good friends.

Hold your breath for 1 more week, Yours Makes Mine (that new record I have been running my mouth about) is being released on Tuesday May 1st! I hope you like it!

Would you believe me if I told you that I have learned how to do David Blaine's, "Card through the window" magic trick?! Well, I cant do it yet, but I am learning. Magic is hard! I was told that the trick to magic is strting when you are a kid - and I believe it. I failed one of my magic tricks at my Friendship Cove show last week and I was not let off the hook! Magic aint an easy gig.

"Yours Makes Mine," my upcoming record is arriving from the plant this week! It will be released March 27th. The record will be released on Vinyl Republik and distributed through Statik. If you have been curious to hear what I have been up to for the past couple years since "An Unsent Letter," maybe you can treat yourself to a copy! (Shameless!)

I am going to see Al Gore and David Suzuki talk this week in Montreal, Ironically they are speaking at the "Just for Laughs" museum, but I doubt there will be many wise cracks! Also, now that "Yours Makes Mine" is done, I have started writing a few new songs- psychedelic folk music!

On tuesday, March 13th I will be trying my hand at my first mugician act! (see above.) The show is a part of the Art Matters Festival and there will be many other artists showing work at the venue. It starts at 7:00 at Friendship Cove in Montreal. (215A Murray) I Hope to see you there!

I went to see Pop Levi last night and it was incredible! The encore consised of 1 note being played for 10 minutes in the most intense fashion known. Rock and Roll! (for breakfast.)

Not to much news to report on my end as of now. I am currently in the process of booking CD release shows across Canada for the spring right now. I have confirmed a show on April 19th at the Lamplighter in Vancouver!! I will be playing with Sinewave and Phontaine, I am very much looking forward to it. Prairies, Montreal, Ontario, I will be coming for you too, but nothing has been confirmed yet! For the person that emailed asking for me to come to Vancouver, I hope to see you there ; )

I am planning on making a mix tape. It wont be a Pete Samples solo project though, it will feature my whole band: Johny Guitar, Billy Bass, Andre Rap-MC, Robert Boulet, Preston Chalmers, Lenny Lapsteel, Ricky R&B, Gary Glockenspiel, and friends. Tony Turntables will mix it.

Theres no turning back now, the record has been sent off to be pressed! My good friend, Brian Hunter did the artwork for it and it looks magical. You can check out his stuff at www.brianhunter.ca. On Thursday, we had a "birthday party" for my promo pictures. They were shot by my friend Etienne and they are spectacular. I will be posting those pics in the gallery and press section as soon as I get them.

So how have things been with you? I have been busy bizzy but I wont complain. I have been very interested in a certain fashion topic lately though. I dont know if you have noticed, but there is an abundance of "gangsters" wearing faux fur coats! I was onthe Metro and I saw a dood in a black fur coat sitting right next to an elderly woman wearing the same outfit! just a thought...

I hope spring comes soon, I would like to see green, its a nice color.

I wonder if its possible to roast marshmallows on an electric fireplace? Romantic. Bye for now,

I hope all is well and you are keeping it "Louis Riel." A large thank you to all that came out to the Lamplighter last weekend, I had a spectacular time. I might have some video from the show, I will post it in the gallery if I do.

Yesterday, I was going about my day as per usual. It was cold out and as I got on the bus I looked around for a seat. A seat was available next to this mysterious long haired guy, and guess who it was? It was Jacques! I know this may not mean a lot to some, but to trust me when I say that this was monumental! We sat together and talked about guitar tricks such as tap solos and windmills. We both got off at the same stop and parted ways. That day, I also had another run in with the angry man who owns a novelty store. Paradoxical! I will post pictures in the gallery when I dig them up.

Last week, I turned my childhood keyboard (casio sa8) in to a random glitch machine/noise generator! (My first circuit bend.)

If you have Sirius Sattelite and have the time, Listen to channel 93 on Tuesday Feb. 13 around 8:00. I will be doing a 60 minute DJ set on Radio Canada's "Band A Parte."

I have some news. I have been neglecting my turntables for a while and my shows have been missing the component for a while. However, Its time for me to start sharpening the old DJ skills because I just got word that I will be doing a live DJ session on Bande Part (Radio-Canada.) The set will be broadcasted live on Sirius Sattelite channel 93 on February 13th at 8:00.


Also, every year in Montreal, there is a Concordia Fine Arts festival called "Art Matters." I just got word that I will be playing a show during the festival. My proposal to the festival was to play a show with an abundance of 'Dollarama' instruments, so we shall see what happens. I will post dates in the live section when I confirm things.


I sold a few pieces of equipment recently and I am now on the hunt to replace those old things with new things. Some things I have been eyeing up in the candy store: a child sized drum set, Focusrite Saffire audio card, a Vibra Slap, Vox DA5 amp, a Presonus faderport controller, the KP3 Kaoss pad and a violin. Thats a long list, Its a tough debate.


I just ate a bunch of cookies while I was writing this, oops. Bye!

I'm heartbroken. I was in Zellers today and I saw the most beautiful miniature grand piano (for kids.) It had 2 octaves of keys, and was pink in color. It was made of real wood and even came with a matching pink stool. The sound was brilliant. The price tag read the amount - $19.00. I was thrilled and instantly a million ideas about the possibilities of this instrument came to me. So i threw it over my shoulder and proudly marched it to the checkout line; only to find out the price tag was "wrong" and it actually costed $104!! I left without the piano.

My new recording, 'Yours Makes Mine' is almost finished. Just a little bit of twisting, turning and tweaking here and there, similar to the act of hula-hooping. I will keep you up to date with the progress. Thanks for your patience, its a commendable trait.
